How Many Outlets Can Be on a 15-Amp Circuit?
There is no universal outlet count that makes every 15-amp circuit safe; the expected load, circuit use, wiring, and locally adopted rules all matter.
A 15-amp, 120-volt circuit has limited capacity. Receptacles themselves do not use power, but connected appliances and continuous loads determine demand.
Count load, not just devices
Lighting, electronics, heaters, kitchen appliances, tools, and other equipment draw very different current. A lightly used bedroom differs from a workshop or office.
Frequent trips indicate a load or defect that needs diagnosis, not a larger breaker.
Circuit-specific rules
Kitchens, bathrooms, laundry areas, garages, HVAC equipment, and required dedicated appliances follow special circuit and protection rules.
GFCI, AFCI, tamper resistance, spacing, and dedicated-circuit requirements may apply.
Safe expansion
