Opinion: Are Challenger Electrical Panels Safe for Use? 1

Challenger electrical panels have been used for decades in residential and commercial properties, and many people consider them to be reliable and durable. However, the quality and performance of any electrical panel can vary depending on a variety of factors such as installation, maintenance, and usage.

Challenger electrical panels were recalled in 2011 by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) due to a fire hazard associated with the breaker failure. The recall involved certain models of Challenger electrical panels manufactured between 1970 and 2005.

If you have a Challenger electrical panel in your home or property, it is recommended to check with the CPSC recall database or contact the manufacturer to determine if your panel was affected by the recall and if any necessary repairs or replacements were made. The recall was due to breaker failure, which could lead to overheating and pose a risk of fire.

Alternatives to Challenger Electrical Panels

If you have a Challenger electrical panel that is affected by the recall or if you are considering a replacement, there are many alternative options to choose from. Some popular alternatives include Square D, GE, and Siemens electrical panels. These panels are known for their reliability and safety, and they come with a range of features and benefits to suit different needs and budgets.

When choosing an alternative electrical panel, it is important to consider the specific requirements of your property and your personal preferences. For example, if you have a large home with multiple circuits, you may need a larger panel with more capacity. You may also want to consider features such as user-friendly design, easy maintenance, and compatibility with modern devices and appliances.

Please send a link to these recalled panels, I can’t seem to find anything verifying your statements.
I do see a voluntary recall for single pole gfi breakers by Challenger, but nothing else.
If you are going to post this, please provide the documentation to prove it.
