Carrier AC Age: How to Find Year of Manufacturer
This quick reference shows you how to determine your Carrier ac age. Carrier ac age typically lasts 10 -15 years, but there are instances when they can last much longer. Like most things, usage, maintenance, and installation type will determine how long the unit last.
Carrier AC Age
You can determine the age by locating the carrier serial number lookup on the data plate. Every Carrier air conditioner has a data plate displaying the unit’s information. On the data plate, you will see other information, such as:
- Product Number
- Tonnage, Capacity
- Volts – AC, Upper, and Lower Watts
- Manufacturer Location
There are five different styles for carrier serial number lookup. It looks like this:

The first two numbers are the week, and the second is the year.
Style #2

The first two numbers are the year, and the second is the month.
Style #3

The first letter is the month, and the first number is the year (Refer to chart for a month)
M – January N – February P-March
Q – April R – May S – June
T – July V – August W – September
X – October Y- November Z – December
Style #4

- Can AC serial number determine age? – The HVAC equipment has encoded for the year and month of the manufactured date for all modern ac units
- How can you tell the age of a Carrier by serial number? – The systems that were made in the last 20 years or so have to encode for the week and year of the manufacturer within the first four digits
- Can AC last 25 years? – Most HVAC systems will last 15-25 years, but the are other factors that contribute to the life expectancy of the system, such as regular service and repairs
