Florida insurance inspection timing

Can You Get a Wind Mitigation Inspection Later?

Yes—but understand how timing can affect underwriting, available credits, and repeat access to the property.

✓ Clear inspection scope✓ South Florida guidance✓ Practical next steps

A wind mitigation inspection can often be scheduled separately from a buyer home inspection or 4-point inspection. Whether waiting makes sense depends on your insurer’s requirements, closing timeline, access to the property, and the date the report must be submitted.

Why schedule it with the home inspection?

Combining appointments may reduce repeat access and helps ensure the report is available when your insurance professional needs it. It can also make it easier to coordinate photographs and documentation while the property is accessible.

What happens if you schedule it later?

You may need another appointment and permission to access the property. A delayed report could also postpone an insurer’s review or any available wind-mitigation credits. Confirm timing directly with the carrier or agent.

How long is the report accepted?

Acceptance periods and documentation requirements are determined by the insurer and may change. Do not rely on a general expiration rule without confirming it with the company using the report.

Does the inspector determine the discount?

No. The inspector documents applicable construction features on the Florida form. The insurer determines eligibility and any premium effect.
